Aims and Objectives

Sangini is a Black and minority ethnic (BME) led, multicultural women’s organisation based in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. We seek to improve the quality of women’s lives by increasing their physical, mental and spiritual health through educational, creative and participatory activities that also celebrate cultural diversity.
Our aims
Promote health and wellbeing among women through education and development
• Promote inclusion, integration and participation through the arts, culture and social activities
• Challenge inequalities and invisibility of women at grassroots and policy level.

History and Background

Sangini was set up in 2002 by a group of women who identified a gap in the area of health and looked for ways to raise awareness about it. As a multi- cultural organisation, the emphasis was also on promoting arts and cultural activities of diversity. It soon emerged that it can play a crucial role in tackling inequalities in health through artistic/creative interventions while enhancing social cohesion. Today Sangini has evolved into an organisation with credibility, vision and capacity to deliver its work to highest professional standards.
